Our Needs

Drop Off Instructions

You can bring items to our facility at 160 Meadow Street in Monroe any day from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm. Please avoid mealtimes of 8-9 am, noon-1 pm, and 6-7 pm. Bring to the door marked “Donations,” accessed by the back parking lot. If your donation includes furniture, please contact Volunteer@UnionShelter.org or (704) 261-3491 to screen and schedule donation delivery time.

Items we cannot accept-Clothing (see below), used toys, books, home decor items

Furniture we cannot accept-sleeper sofas, sectionals, futons, kitchen table/chairs for more than 6 people, entertainment centers

Clothing-We do not accept clothing donations but we support our collaborative partner Good Steward Ministries with all clothing donations. Our shelter clients are able to shop there for free.

Food-We are not able to accept leftover meals that were prepared in a home kitchen. Leftover food from a commercial kitchen (catering, restaurants, etc) can be accepted as long as it has been maintained at the proper temperature. If you have questions about that, food services staff can answer at drop off.

Needs

We have ongoing need for food, furniture, toiletries and other product supplies. We rely on donations for most of these needs. Our current month’s needs list is at the bottom of this page. To partner with us financially, go to Donate.

Many organizations – clubs, churches, families, neighborhoods and businesses – hold collection drives, asking folks to bring their items to a specific location on a given day, week or even month. It’s amazing how much product groups of all sizes can collect.

Many of our residential clients who move into independent housing receive furniture and household supplies through our Home Again program. We rely on donations from the public to support clients when they move. Most of the new housing is small or studio apartments, and large sofas, queen or king beds, large dining room sets will not fit. Last year, we provided 68 households with donations.

Check out our Amazon Wish List.

More than 150 local groups, businesses, churches and families partner with us to provide meals but we are always looking for new partners. Here are our current high need meals. Other meals also are available. Visit www.UnionShelter.org/Kitchen to get started with providing a meal.
