Melissa McKeown has been named chief operating officer of the Union County Community Shelter. This is a new position designed to allow Executive Director Kathy Bragg to focus her energies on building a new facility as well as program and fund development to support the hunger and homeless issues in Union County.
McKeown has been employed at the shelter for seven years, starting as part-time bookkeeper. She became a family services case manager, was promoted to senior case manager and then promoted to director of client services.
In the new position, she is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Community Shelter, including the soup kitchen, emergency adult and family housing, rapid rehousing initiatives plus volunteer support.
“Melissa’s multi-faceted experience with the Shelter makes her the ideal chief operating officer,” said Kathy Bragg, executive director of the Shelter. “She has seen us transition from a long-term transitional shelter into a broad emergency services program that encourages rapid rehousing into independent living. She understands our mission, not only intellectually but also with her heart.”
