Pass The Plate 2022

Can you help our community neighbors in need?

Throughout the year, the Community Shelter relies on donations from an array of sources to help us run our emergency shelter, food, and rehousing programs. As we enter the holiday season, we are especially grateful for your help in assisting neighbors trying to return to independent living.

On Dec. 9, we’re taking our traditional Pass the Plate gathering in a new direction, with one event in the morning in Monroe, and another in the evening in Waxhaw, and we hope you can join us. It’s always a great way to kick off the holiday season by helping others right here in Union County.

Homelessness is changing here, quickly. Last year, of all who stayed in our 90-bed facility, 62% of them were facing homelessness for the first time. Our participants are starting to skew older, and we’re seeing far more families needing help, as well.

A tax-deductible donation through our Pass the Plate drive helps the Community Shelter target its most critical areas. Your donations stay local and make an immediate impact; gifts from individuals, houses of worship, businesses, and civic groups normally make up about a quarter of our operating budget.
