Volunteer Job Descriptions

Each Job has dates/times that they are scheduled and a brief description. For any questions, email us at Volunteer@unionshelter.org

When you are ready to get started, go to the Volunteer page and fill out a registration: Volunteer!

Meal Host

Monday-Friday: Breakfast 7 a.m.-9 a.m., Lunch 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

7 Days a Week: Supper 5 p.m.-8 p.m.

• Assist shelter staff with setting up the kitchen and dining hall for service
• Check clients in and help serve the meal
• Clean up the kitchen and dining hall including dishes
• Take out trash
• Supper volunteers help close down the kitchen with staff at the end of the night

Pantry/Kitchen Support

Monday-Friday: 9 a.m.-11 a.m., 4 p.m.-6 p.m.

• Sort food donations
• Assemble food boxes
• Complete food box paperwork for clients
• Assist shelter staff with food preparation

Lobby Assistant

Monday-Friday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. *Sign up for 2 hours increments*

• Greet people as they enter the lobby and direct to where they need to go
• Answer the phone and route to appropriate staff

Client Activity Room Assistant

7 Days a Week: 7:45 a.m.-7:45 p.m. *Sign up for 2 hours increments*

• Assist clients with signing up for computer and shower slots
• Check clients in during meal times

Shelter Dorm Support

7 Days a Week: 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

• Assist shelter staff with evening operations (laundry, cleaning, answering the phone, paperwork, etc)
• Help with client requests
• THIS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY IS FOR 18 YEARS OLD AND UP.
